intro post, since the cool kids are doing it.

heya, welcome to the blog. you can call me Astral or Astra. i’ve got no preference between the two.

i’m 18, genderqueer, pansexual, and Canadian. use any pronouns you want for me.

i like to write, so i might post some of my own writing here sometimes, but it’s mostly fandom nonsense and writing-related posts from other people. fair warning, some of the stuff i write/reblog might involve violence - i’ll try to tag accordingly.

currently interested in: Madness Combat, Inscryption, Hermitcraft, Darkest Dungeon, Minecraft, and space. this will change over time.
[maybe not the space thing, actually. that’s been pretty consistent.]

i’ll tag my writing as #astral texts - when i actually have the time to finish my WIPs, that is.

If there was a way to run SUPER MEGA AD BLOCKER on this website I fucking would

Freeloader Comin’ through!

We didn’t start this war internet users have with ads - We might have moaned about banner ads, but it was only when they started making noises when we might be listening to music or a podcast or whatever, causing two sound sorces at once, that we started trying to block ads universally rather than just a specific type of ad (pop ups).

And since then ads have gotten worse - Actual malware rather than merely breaking one of the fundamental sins of web design - though shalt not autoplay anything with sound. And the more aggressive a website is with ‘please turn off adblock’ the less I trust it to bother to vet ads and advertisers to make sure they’re not installing malware.

Not to mention that the idea that avoiding ads is “freeloading” is hilariously backward. Advertisement is a transaction between the platform and the advertiser, the user has no obligation to provide the views/clicks the platform has promised. Using an adblocker isn’t freeloading in the same way that leaving the room to get a snack during a commercial break isn’t cheating the tv network.

Ok y’all, I work as a web developer and I’m here to tell you that you are 100% right and that it’s shit. SO I’m going to tell you how to get around websites that block you from using their website if you’re using an adblocker.

Every website uses a language called JavaScript; long story short it’s a website language that allows developers to do the crazy shit you see on websites. Now the easiest thing to do is to disable JavaScript to stop them from knowing you have an adblocker:

image

Oh no! I’m blocked from viewing the website. It would be a terrible shame if I were able to right click and select the “inspect” feature

image

Click the three dots in the top right and open the “Settings” Menu

image

And then scrolled down to “Debugger” and checked the “Disable Javascript Option”

image

And then just refreshed the page

asked a question

What does A.G.A.R stand for?

replied to your question

Tehe im glad someone asked abt them hehe

Anyways

A.G.A.R or Agency for Guns ‘n Ammo Restock is a “sibling” agency to AAHW

It already existed before It but It only got “power” after joining forces

They can also deliver any other stuff other than Guns/Ammo (even tho thats their specialty) like food, equipment, tecnology etc.

The Luminosity cant really be around to take care of It (for other lore reason hehe) so Mrs.Krási is the “head” of everything there

The Mailmans were all specifically chosen bcs they “wouldnt die” on the job (aka there were others but they didnt survive smh skill issue. Also each of them have a special ability to aid in that wink wink)

Anyways yeah hope you like this lil explanation :)))

Anyway its in a really annoyingly out of the way place but in the wake of this stupid ass layout change "experiment"

This is the contact support form which is also the giving feedback form. I imagine this is more likely to get listened to than replying to staff posts with incoherent rage so I recommend just telling them the layout change is really bad before they get a chance to commit to it:

A screenshot of the Tumblr Help Center Page where OP has selected the "Feedback" category for support and written: "new layout bad."ALT

Please be more eloquent than this example. Also to the users with unchecked anger issues that you think makes you cool: no violently threatening the support team please that will help nothing and probably just be counterintuitive Just say the layout is bad and you don't like it. I believe in my heart that we can perform a #ThisNewLayoutSucksAssSweep

Oh look, it seems everyone has been opted into the unfortunate "experiment" now. For everyone who has been blissfully using the old UI up until now, welcome to hell :)

Do you not like hell? Do you want to leave and crawl back up into the sunlight of the old UI? Well, have I got a link for you! A beautiful tumblr user has gone and fixed things beautifully for you already: https://github.com/enchanted-sword/dashboard-unfucker

You will need you have Tampermonkey installed on your browser of choice, and once that's done, just go to the github link above, and peruse the readme to install. And voila! You have your old dash back!

The authors of XKit Rewritten said during the experiments that at the time, since this was an "experiment" they weren't going to implement anything to revert to the old UI (although who knows if they'll do it now). And the dashboard unfucker has worked beautifully enough for me to where I genuinely couldn't tell if they had ended the experiment or not.

Thank you SO much for this, I missed having the old layout back <3

A new way to navigate Tumblr

If you use Tumblr on a web browser, you might have noticed us testing a brand new navigation on your dashboard in the last month. Now, after some extensive tweaks, we’ve begun rolling out this new dashboard navigation to everyone using a web browser. Welcome to the new world. It’s very like the old world, just in a different layout.

Why are we doing this? We want it to be as easy as possible for everyone to understand and explore what’s happening on Tumblr—newbies and seasoned travelers alike.

image

Labels over icons: When adding something new to Tumblr in the past, we’d simply add a new icon to our navigation with little further explanation. Turns out no one likes to press a button when they don’t know what it does. So now, where there’s space, the navigation includes text labels. Since adding these, we’ve noticed more of you venturing to previously unexplored corners of Tumblr. Intrepid!

What’s already been fixed? Thanks to feedback from folks during the testing phase, we’ve been able to make some improvements right out of the gate. Those include returning settings subpages (Account, Dashboard, etc.) to the right of the settings page instead of having them in an expandable item in the navigation on the left; fixing some issues with messaging windows on smaller screens; and streamlining the Account section to make it easier to get to your blogs.

What’s next? We’re looking into making a collapsible version of this navigation and improving the use of screen space for those of you with enormous screens. We’re also working on improving access to your account and sideblogs.

That’s all for now, folks. For questions and suggestions, contact Support using the “Feedback” category. Please select the “Report a bug or crash” category on the support form for technical issues. And keep an eye out for more updates here on @changes.
